Our Story

How We Met

Although we both lived in Blacksburg, VA at the same time for 6 years, we didn't meet until we had both moved to Richmond. On the night before Brad's birthday in 2013, we both found ourselves in New York Deli, a Richmond watering hole. After singing karaoke to a full bar earlier in the night, Brad was full of confidence. When a jubilant Michelle appeared in front of him, he struck up a conversation and scored her phone number.

How We Have Fun

We both love live music and craft beer and often find ourselves where the two meet. Obviously we both support all Hokie sports and try to see them in action whenever possible.

How He Proposed

Brad proposed to Michelle on January 28, 2016 on the beach in Costa Maya, Mexico, which was a port stop on The Rock Boat, a music festival cruise. He had a good friend snap a few pictures of them and then knelt down and surprised her for the 3rd picture. She knew a proposal was coming at some point, but was definitely surprised! In fact, her immediately response wasn't yes, but rather, "WHAT!?" Brad asked her to clarify and she followed up with an excited "YES!"

The ceremony and reception will be held at Maymont, a historic estate in Richmond, VA.

  • The Welcoming Party

On Friday evening, everyone is invited to a casual gathering to socialize with family and friends.

Venue: Boat Room at Sam Miller's in Shockoe

    Time: 8:30pm, Friday evening

  • The Ceremony

We will be saying "I DO!" in the beautiful Italian gardens at 6pm. Please plan to arrive early, as there is a short walk from the parking area.

Shoe warning for the ladies: there is extremely limited seating at the ceremony, so you should expect to stand for our swift nuptials, and the walkway to the location includes some minor cobblestones.

  • The Cocktail Hour

While the bridal party snaps a few post-ceremony pictures, you're invited to a cocktail hour in Maymont's Nature Center. It includes animal and plant exhibits from the surrounding area (including otters and for some reason a small alligator).

  • The Reception

We'll be feeding you dinner, so you don't have to pack your pockets and purses full of peanut butter crackers and hard candies, but you can if you want to.

  • After Party!

We have tentative plans to head to a local watering hole and overwhelm the bartenders. Venue TBD.

  • The Sunday Social

A casual gathering at the Culberts' house with finger foods and leftover booze. Arrive casually anytime between 11am and 2pm. Point your GPS to:

    2930 Summerhurst Drive
    Midlothian, VA 23113

Have some highway toll money ready. You'll probably have to park along the neighborhood street and walk up the driveway.
